Fifty Years of Hedgehogs: Turning Prickly Pasts into Ground-Breaking Translocation Tales

Dark Island Hotel on Benbecula, Monach Suite

Tuesday 25th June, 6:30pm - 8pm

Hosted by RSPB

For fifty years, hedgehogs have been a prickly predicament for local wildlife on Uist and conservation groups alike, with previous projects employing standard eradication techniques to lethally remove the invasive species. But now, we're flipping the script with a ground-breaking approach to live capture and translocate hedgehogs back to the Scottish Mainland. This approach will not only provide positive outcomes for the conservation of native wildlife on Uist but has the potential to support declining populations of hedgehogs back on the mainland.

Join us for a 45 minute presentation and open floor discussion to hear more about the development of the new approach to relocate these charismatic creatures, while safeguarding Uist's delicate ecosystem.

Tea and coffee will be provided.

Free. Please book your space by emailing outerhebrides@rspb.org.uk â€‹

Our Gin ambassadors will talk you through our Downpour Gin, botanicals, the distillation process, recipe development, our distillery and island life. We’ll be joined at this very special event by Gill Perkins, CEO of the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, who will explain about the essential role that bumblebees play in pollinating the botanicals that go into our gin.
